Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion skin resurfacing is achieved using a highly controlled spray of fine crystals, (one hundred microns in size), under pressure and vacuum.  These crystals literally "erase" the imperfections and sun damage, without damaging the skin's integrity.  The results: a smoother, more youthful appearance.

This process, when repeated multiple times, allows the younger softer skin to move to the surface, promoting noticeable changes in texture, color and appearance.

How Does This Occur?

Microdermabrasion reduces the thickness of the stratum corneum through mechanical abrasion of dead cells.  Stimulation of fibroblasts for collagen regeneration is achieved through vacuum action and mechanical exfoliation of the stratum corneum, and the stimulation of blood flow aids in the healing process.

The combination of skin exfoliation and slight vacuum stimulates reproduction by the fibroblasts of new, living cells at the basal layer of the epidermis.  This effect causes increased cell turnover and improved blood flow.

Optimum results with microdermabrasion are obtained after a series of treatments, typically 4-8 at the rate of one every 14-21 days.  There is virtually no healing time after microdermabrasion treatment, although the skin goes through a cellular rebuilding of the stratum corneum.  Microdermabrasion provides an immediate return to normal lifestyle and minimal discomfort.

Ways to Boost the Effects Even More...

There are many ways to enhance your results by using PCA chemical peels with the microdermabrasion.  Several of the exfoliationg treatments can be used to encourage peeling, hydration and lightening of the skin.  The Ultra Peel I, Ultra Peel II, Sensi Peel exfoliating treatments and Esthetique Peel are all very effective choices for use following gentle microdermabrasion.  The Detox Gel Treatment can be used to improve skin with a tendency toward breakouts.  These treatments will be up to 50% more effective when applied following a microdermabrasion, but still with minimal discomfort or downtime.
