The microcurrent treatment, as seen on OPRAH, is low level energy that stimulates chemical reactions on the natural body impulses at a cellular level for a firmer and smoother skin.
The principal of this face lift is to work on the re-education of the muscles and the increase of collagen and elastin fibers. The treatment focuses on lenghtening muscles that have been contracted over the years and shortening muscles that have become elongated due to age and gravity. This process is achieved by stimulating 32 of the facial muscles with tiny amounts of electricity to re-energize their biological currents and re-establish muscle memory.
Like exercising, the benefits of microcurrent treatments are cumulative, so normally they are performed in a series to get the best results. These series can range from 8 to 15 depending upon your age and then maintenance will be done every 3 to 8 weeks depending on age.

Contra-indications:
Although the level of current used in microcurrent devices is very minute, there are some contra-indications to consider. This includes pace makers, epilepsy, pregnancy, phlebitis, thrombosis, and of course any client who is currently “under the care of a physician”.

Facial Contouring Massage
Facial Contouring Massage (FCM) combines facial massage with microcurrent. It works on all layers of the skin, including the underling connective tissues and structures, by lifting and softening muscles. By incorporating cranial sacral and myofascial release techniques the FCM addresses issues from the decollete to the scalp by releasing facial contractions excerbated by age, stress and poor sleep. The application of microcurent on the skin is used based on evidence that microcurrent is similar to the body's own electrical currents that repair damaged tissues. It is believed that microcurrent has the ability to stimulate cell productivity and reduce inflammation. In one study it was shown that when microcurrent was applied to tissue samples, the Adenosine Triphoshate (ATP) was increased by nearly 500% (Cheng et Al, 1982). ATP is where cells get the energy to perform tasks including skin rejuvenation, wound healing and collagen and elastin production. When ATP levels are low, every cell within the body performs at less than optimum levels. The body will then prioritize which cells will receive the limited ATP being produced, with the outer layers of the skin being a low priority. So think of microcurrent as an "energy drink" that ramps up the production of ATP. This increase in ATP provides the energy that tissues need to build protein, which is necessary for collagen and elastin production.
